The latest Antiques & Collectors Auction at Gildings, Market Harborough, drew a packed saleroom and keen interest among dealers and collectors there in person, or bidding on the internet or by telephone.

Auctioneer John Gilding said: "This was another well attended, excellent sale and many internet and telephone bidders were successful, showing yet again the popularity of this service for people unable to be there."

"James Lewis and a camera support team were at this sale filming for a new BBC television programme, so that also created interest. There are continuing indications that older furniture represents good value at the moment, so its availability through the saleroom is achieving an increasing response."

But top price on the day was achieved by a gent’s Ebel wristwatch (Lot 318) which came under the gavel for £2600 – the dial with Roman numerals and batons, the case marked 18k, with the original Ebel bracelet strap stamped 750 – in the original Ebel box. A glass table light (Lot 529) made £1300, with twin scrolled branches, other lights, prismatic drops, etc.

In furniture, a George III mahogany chest on chest (Lot 525) fetched £1100 with a dentil moulded cornice, the upper section with 2 short and 4 long graduating drawers, the base with a brushing slide and 4 long graduating drawers, all with brass handles, on bracket feet; a William IV mahogany extending dining table (Lot 611) made £780 – the top with rounded corners, moulded edge, plain frieze on fluted legs with 2 extra leaves; and a Victorian chaise longue (Lot 560) £560 – with a shaped back, buttoned upholstery on a carved scrolled mahogany frame, serpentine seat and scrolled legs.

A Sector clock (Lot 505) also achieved £1100 – the mahogany case with circular painted dial, Arabic numerals, single fusee movement; Lot 501 – a Victorian boulle mantle clock made £420 with gilt metal mounts, enamalled dial with Roman numerals, cylinder movement, Japy Freres striking on a gong; and a modern longcase clock (Lot 519) £400 – arched hood, glazed doors, cupboard base on a moulded plinth, arched dial with Arabic numerals and moon roller inscribed "Interclock" – the movement striking on 8 gongs.

An X registered 3-door Nissan Micra hatchback car (Lot 479) fetched £560, with MOT until May 2011; a large quantity of pre-decimal coins (Lot 327) £450; a lacquered glove box (Lot 360) £420, together with a quantity of costume jewellery; an Art Deco style plaque 9ct gold brooch (Lot 348) £420, set with approximately 108 brilliant cut diamonds and 3 facetted sapphires; and Lot 189 a similar price – £420 – a large quantity – 163 pieces – of Mason’s Regency pattern tea, coffee and dinnerwares.

Other furniture to command attention included Lot 570 a George III oak lowboy which fetched £360, rectangular bordered top with moulded edge, 3 frieze drawers, shaped apron on cabriole legs, pad feet; a Victorian walnut table cabinet (Lot 566) £300, of architectural form with panelled door, scrolled feet; a 19th century mahogany card table (Lot 609) £280, with marquetry decoration in the Dutch style, with urns and flowers and acanthus scrolls, rectangular top enclosing a baize lined interior, on square tapering legs; a joined oak table (Lot 607) £260 with an oval top with 2 fall leaves, on turned and ringed gate legs, plain stretchers; and a Victorian oak desk (Lot 571) also made £260, fitted with a traditional 9 drawers on plinth base, rectangular top with a moulded edge and tooled leather inset.

In pottery, a small Moorcroft vase (Lot 371) fetched £360, slightly flared form with a circular foot, decorated with flowers, impressed Moorcroft and a painted signature; Royal Doulton figures – Boy Evacuee and Girl Evacuee – both limited editions (Lot 303) together £360. A hallmarked silver table candlelabrum (Lot 61) sold for £360 with 3 urn shaped sconces and twin scrolled branches, tapering column on a shaped oval base, all with reeded outlines, Walker & Hall, Sheffield 1962; a pair of 19th century 2-branch glass pedestal candle lamps (Lot 528) £340 converted to electricity and various lamp fitments, and a Royal Doulton Kingsware whisky decanter (Lot 22) £300 – decorated with a figure, with a silver mounted stopper.
