An auction sale is usually held on Tuesdays either at Morris Road, Leicester or at The Mill, Market Harborough. For details of sale dates, sale type, location, viewing times and catalogue availability visit one of the salerooms for listings or check gildings.co.uk. Sale dates and details are rarely changed once set but it is always adviseable to check closer to the date of a sale to ensure no changes have been made.
Sale Listings and Catalogues
For regular sales, lists are available from the Saturday morning preceding each sale. Printed lists can be purchased from the salerooms. Fully illustrated lists are available at gildings.co.uk. Catalogues are produced for special sales including Fine Arts. These are available 2 weeks before the sale both in printed form and online.
Viewing days prior to the auction provide prospective buyers with the opportunity to examine lots prior to purchase. Viewing times are advertised along with the auction details and are usually held the Saturday before the sale (9am-12noon), Monday (9am-4pm) and for a short time on the morning of the auction. Extended viewing is available for Specialist and Fine Art sales.
Prospective buyers must satisfy themselves as to the condition of a lot prior to purchase. If you cannot attend the saleroom on viewing days, or appoint your own expert to examine a lot, you can request a condition report from us. You can do this by emailing
email@example.com. Requests for condition reports must be received at least 24 hours before the auction begins.
Buying / Bidding
Registering as a Buyer
Buyers must register at the reception desk prior to bidding in the sale room. New buyers will be asked for proof of identity and their address in order to complete their registration: either a valid Driving Licence or Passport and a Utility Bill or Bank Statement.

Please remember that all lots are subject to the buyers premium of 15% +VAT which will be added on to the hammer price.
Bidding at the saleroom
Upon registration you will be handed a numbered paddle and you can enter the saleroom to bid. During the sale the auctioneer will scan the room for new bids on each lot whilst advising the current bid. To let the auctioneer know you wish to raise the current bid you can get his attention by raising your paddle. If your final bid wins the lot the auctioneer will need to make a note of your paddle number so that you can proceed to payment and collection of your lot(s).
To assist buyers who have found it impossible to attend an auction Gildings offer live online bidding on many sales via the-saleroom.com/gildings. Once registered under their Terms and Conditions you can join in the bidding from your internet connected computer against the room, absentee bids and other internet users. A description and image of each lot is shown along with the current bid and you can choose to listen to the auctioneer if you wish. Successful online purchases are subject to an additional fee of 3% + VAT.
Whilst prospective buyers are strongly advised to attend the auction, they can, if completely satisfied with the condition of a particular lot, leave written instruction for the auctioneer to bid on their behalf by providing a maximum bid. Bids will be executed as cheaply as permitted by other bids or reserves. Absentee bids must be received at least 24 hours before the auction begins.
Under special circumstances and at the auctioneers absolute discretion a request to bid by telephone may be booked on the understanding that the opening bid will be no less than £200. To request a telephone bid please contact the saleroom at least 24 hours before the auction begins.

If you anticipate spending in excess of £3,000, please contact the office prior to sale. Payment by cheque by prior arrangement only. Debit and credit cards accepted from the United Kingdom. There will be a 3% + VAT surcharge on credit card payments. Please note we do not accept American Express. Overseas Buyers must pay by electronic transfer.
Following payment lots can be collected from the collection point. Preferably on sale day.
In the event that collection can not be made on the day of sale or within 14 days goods will be stored by Gilding’s. A charge for this service is made of £2 per lot per week for small lots and £10 per lot per week for furniture lots plus VAT.
