From this summer, Gildings are expanding their range of specialist departments and auctions at their Market Harborough auction centre. The Leicester Saleroom is to close from July 29th with the final auction to be held on Tuesday 12th July, with the specialist Toy & Collectables and Medals & Militaria departments moving back to the company’s main premises.

The fortnightly auction calendar will continue with the popular Antique & Collectables auction format being supplemented with additional specialist categories including Jewellery, Vintage, 20th century Decorative Art & Design, Toys & Collectables, Medals & Militaria, and Model Aero Engines.

“The market has fundamentally changed over the last decade, with buyers focusing on specialist areas of collecting interest, as opposed to the volume of generic lots of household items that were once bread and butter to the Antiques trade as a whole,” comments Mark Gilding, Managing Director at Gildings. “Across the board we are seeing the buyers’ approach to auctions change, with more people focusing on specialist sales and areas of collecting. We’re pleased to be in a position to meet this change in the market, offering a broad range of specialist auctions under the one roof of our prestigious Market Harborough premises. In an ever competitive world, our ability to identify, catalogue, and target lots to niche markets will ensure our vendors will achieve strong auction prices, and our buyers will be able to receive a reliable and efficient level of customer service that we pride ourselves on as a local family firm”.

The quarterly Fine Antiques & Works of Art auctions will continue building on recent successes including the sale of John Piper’s original oil landscape “The High Fall” selling for £80,000 (premium inclusive); a T.E Lawrence subscribers copy of The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, selling for over £31,000; and a rare Swiss musical box by Francois Nicole realising over £27,000.

In addition to the busy sales calendar the valuation team will be embarking on a busy schedule of external valuation days across the Midlands, making it easier for consignors to find out what their items are worth in the current auction market. These valuation days will include regular monthly visits in Leicester city at the Belmont Hotel, Newalk; Newtown Linford Village Hall; Sketchley Grange Hotel and Spa, Burbage; and Gates Garden Centre, near Oakham, as well as providing valuation appointments at the Market Harborough salerooms.
